to live, live hard, to face death, you know life is better

Mark Dong Review: To Live

Yu Hua is one of the best author of China, his book can make people crying, laughting, thinking...
To Live, Yu Hua's most successful book, it told me the stories about death, when people only the meaning of death, they will know how to live.
"To Live" in Chinese, means live hard, it makes Chinese people feel powerful, people own more experience will know the true meaning of "To Live".
Fu Gui is the dramatis personae of this book, his relatives and friends dead one by one, including his father, mother wife, son, daughter, son-in-law, comrade in arms, atlast, his grandson dead for the reason eating to much. Fu Gui still to live, live hard, live hardships.
It narrates the stories about death, but it taught us how to live...

An eye opener!

JS(Hong Kong) Review: The Complete Persepolis

Really an eye opener. For someone who knows so little about places outside Hong Kong, I was shocked again and again by what happens to people living in Iran. It makes me realise how lucky I am to have been born in Hong Kong and what a shame that I've always taken freedom as granted.

A good read for people who are interested in art and design!

JS(Hong Kong) Review: A Whole New Mind

Pretty good but I think the writer has oversimplified the trend a little. Be critical when you read! A must-read for anyone who's interested in design.

Its a history book

pekkris(Beijing) Review: The Memory Palace of Matteo Ricci

But a pretty interesting one. It paints an intricate and well researched portrait of the time -- 1580-1610 in China.

Ricci was a Jesuit, and wanted to help mankind save itself. He also despised Buddhism and homosexuals. The Jesuits burned homosexuals alive at that time.

His dream of converting China to Christianity never came true. In some ways his life reminds me of George Orwell, another idealist who fought for a dream to better mankind.

In retrospect, Orwell, like Ricci, got it wrong, I think.

I wonder how many of us have it wrong too.

Review

FreeAndEasy Review: The Final Theory

Quite an eye-opener on the current state of science, with a very compelling completely alternate view of everything scientific. Claims to be the literal Theory Of Everything sought by science for centuries, and despite the dubious nature of such claims I'm finding it very difficult to dispute after reading it. Highly recommended read!

goes well with a cup of coffee

Genecodes(Hong Kong) Review: The Nanny Diaries

Nothing serious. This book is simply for killing time.

This book is recommended from one of my friends when I was planning to start my baby sitting job during this summer holiday. The fact is I just simply went through it within three hours at the starbucks yesterday afternoon, one cup of cappuccino and some puddings plus.

And it did remind me of the Devil Wears Prada. Mr X is really a big attraction in this book, anyways. A typical big mid-age barbie, blonde, stylish, cold and lifeless.
