honestly, i am simply amazed and, in a way, pleased of an increasing number of people who want their voices to be heard. (reminds me of Milan Kundera's novel, "The Book of Laughter and Forgetting.")
i can say that i am probably one of them. in 2001 i left manila to join my family in vienna. it wasn't easy for me of course. i struggled with the language, somehow with the culture, and most of all, i didn't know a lot of people. slowly, i discovered that it wasn't that bad to talk to yourself/about yourself, of what you are going through on the net where anonymity is acknowledged. i knew Diaryland and co. way back in the Philippines but quickly dismissed the people who participated in it as "sick." i mean, why would you let the whole world know what's happening with your private life?
suddenly in september 2001, after 9/11 i found myself longing for something. i learned that the net could be my personal Wailing Wall. i wasn't really particular if i'd have an audience. what i wanted was i just wanted to talk. that's all. perhaps, i missed my friends. or i missed my parents. but somehow, i felt relieved. even though SO find it ridiculous. still he understands.
four years and counting i thank the gods for Diaryland and its peers.

I don't presently blog, but have, and for me the driving force is exactly Kundera's prophesied graphomania. Smart man.

What surprises me more is why people subscribe to other's blogs. People don't usually read through strangers' diaries (or do they?), and non-celebrities as well as strangers. Some bloggers can work as journalists by maintaining a large following and live on the donations (so I've heard). I just find it quite strange that blogs are so popular. Am I missing out on something here?

I blog because I want to record my life.

I blog because I need some kind of addiction... something I can selfishly and mindlessly devote myself to.

Hi,

I think people prefer intimate stories and personal experiences more than information in blogosphere. Because information is transient and can be easily drag over by history. Zillions of info around the world on web. You can get knowledge of newest hardware from 'engadget', but hardly being aware of where can buy the cheapest gadget in your town's 24 hours store. Blog is meant sharing and communication between bloggers.

Something to offer, to share ....

Thoughts and reflection ....

But not to impose on anyone ....
